Lot 1132 Smill & Welson .44 Double Action .44 S&W
#52638 A Spanish counterfeit of a top-break double action Smith & Wesson revolver chambered for .44 Smith & Wesson, and likely manufactured in the Eibar region of Spain. It is believed that Aranzabal y Cia is the manufacturer, because they made Smith & Wesson top-break copies from the 1890's to before the start of WWII for South America. Revolver features a blued finish, a 4-1/2" ribbed barrel, fixed blade front sight, notched barrel latch rear sight, fluted six-round cylinder, smooth curved trigger, external hammer with checkered spur, firing pin on hammer nose, smooth grip straps, lanyard ring on the heel of the grip, and black checkered hard rubber grips with a logo embossed on both sides. The original blued finish retained is approximately 80% showing general thinning, edge wear, scratches, and patina. Metal displays spots of rust throughout, and pitting. There is some deformation observed in some of the screw slots. The action works, but the cylinder rotates both directions, and the hammer does not stay cocked in any position. The cylinder does seem to index correctly when the trigger is pulled. The bore is dark with rifling, and rust was observed in the barrel. The cylinder chambers are good with rust. The plastic grips are in fair condition with a crack at the top of the right grip panel, a chip at the top of the left panel, and normal handling wear.
